Father’s Day River Tubing

Kat and I, along with daughters Alex and Samantha, are going to spend some relaxing Father’s Day time today floating down the Shenandoah River.

After Alex arrived we spent a little time talking as I opened some wonderful gifts from Kat and the girls. Their gifts and acknowledgments were greatly appreciated and they helped make all those sleepless nights (I recalled when they were young and would get sick) just a bit more tolerable. After some photos and gear loading we all packed into the Outback and left around 9:30am for a relaxing drive to West Virginia. We were heading to one of our favorite places for tubing and rafting adventure, Harper’s Ferry Adventure Center, https://harpersferryadventurecenter.com/.

On the way, as the girls caught up on their beauty sleep, I decided to stop at the Catoctin Mountain Orchards to grab something tasty to eat on the way, http://www.catoctinmountainorchard.com/. This is an awesome store if you get the chance to stop by one day.

Once we arrived we were instructed to grab a life vest and board the bus for a short drive up river to the put-in spot. This area of the Shenandoah River is what they decided to use for the tubers as the water levels were about six feet high due to recent rains. The Center felt the Potomac River would be too dangerous for tubing so every tuber for the day was funneled to this area. From the put-in area this gave us about an hour float time. The good news was that we could ride the river as many times as we wanted until they closed at 3:00PM. We ended up doing two laps then were starting to think about dinner.

Tubing with Girls

After we’d had enough tubing we returned the life vest and tubes, changed into dry clothes and were headed towards home. On the way we decided to hit Red Lobster once back in Hanover. We were hungry and the girls and I enjoyed quite a feast of snow crab, scallops, garlic shrimp and a great Bahama mama drink (for Dad of course, ;-). Afterwards, I treated the girls to some great ice-cream at our local Bruster’s Ice-cream parlor. It was a fitting ending to great Father’s day spent with Kat and some awesome kids.

Until the next adventure…
